About Genomics England
The Generation Study is run by Genomics England, a company owned by the Department of Health and Social Care.
We were established in 2013 to deliver the 100,000 Genomes Project, the first study of its kind in the world. The data collected as part of that study is still used in research. Those who took part have helped to make a difference in care for many people with rare conditions and cancer.

We work to improve healthcare through genomic testing and research.
Our goal is to understand how genomic and health data can be used to help clinicians diagnose, treat, and prevent illnesses in the future.
We want to create a world where everyone benefits from genomic healthcare. We believe that by 2035, genomics will play a key role in up to half of all healthcare interactions.

We partner with the NHS
We are working with the NHS to deliver this study. All the conditions we test for have treatment available through the NHS in England. The NHS Health Research Authority has approved this study. They have made sure it’s ethical and legally sound.

We’re publicly funded
Our study is funded by the Department of Health and Social Care. The commitment to recruiting and sequencing 100,000 newborn babies through the Generation Study was confirmed in the 10 Year Health Plan. The funding to complete this is part of the commitment of over £650 million for Genomics England in the Life Sciences Sector Plan.
